A cosmetic technique known as laser skin resurfacing. It is a popular skin treatment in the world and many people who have experienced skin damage opt for the procedure. Laser skin resurfacing purpose is to boost the skin condition and overall texture. The treatment involves laser technology to reduce the outer layer of the skin and stimulate collagen production. During the procedure a skincare practitioner targets multiple skin problems for instance fine lines, wrinkles, scars, sun damage, uneven tone and skin pigmentation. 

Specific equipment is used in the treatment in order to target skin cells. Laser skin resurfacing treatment addresses the skin issues that are occurring on  the face, chest, neck, hands and legs. This cosmetic treatment is performed through a device which emits high-energy light on specific areas of skin. This energy is absorbed by the targeted cells that are causing damage to the outer layer of the skin.

Specific amount of this cosmetic treatment is not known however its average cost is 20,000 to 50,000 per session. Although, various factors like hospital location, number of sessions, doctor expertise, equipment, type of hospital, whether it is government or private all affects the cost of Skin Laser treatment in India.

Types of Laser Skin Resurfacing 

There are two types of laser resurfacing, one is Carbon dioxide (CO2)and other is erbium lasers. These lasers involve a uniform injury to the area of the skin. There is also another known as fractionated CO2 laser treatment. This type of treatment includes laser drill, multiple narrow columns of holes deep into the layer of skin. However, the surrounding skin remains untreated and intact. 

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

This procedure has been used for many years to treat various skin conditions.

However, advancement involved in new technology of CO2 uses minimum pulsed light energy which is used to deliver in the scanning pattern to precisely reduce the thin layer of the skin with minimum heat damage to the surrounding skin. It successfully removes wrinkles, scars, birthmarks, Rhinophyma and other skin problems. You can recover from this procedure in about 2 weeks. 

Erbium laser resurfacing

This technique is designed to overcome superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles. Local anesthesia is administered during the procedure. 

In this procedure lasers could be performed on the neck, hands, and chest. The benefits of the erbium laser resurfacing are minimal injury in the surrounding tissues and less discomfort. One can recover from the procedure within a week.

Fractional laser Resurfacing

Fractional resurfacing offers multiple narrow columns of laser light to the skin. This procedure helps to tightens skin and boost collagen. One of the benefits of this procedure is that skin does not get damaged.  

Potential Risks of Laser Skin Resurfacing

Following are the potential risks of Laser Resurfacing:

  • Burning
  • Bacterial Infection
  • Fungus Infection
  • Itching 
  • Tingling sensation
  • Scarring
  • Discomfort 
  • Pain
  • Redness

Recovery Precautions  

There are several advantages of laser treatment. However an individual needs to take care of some precautions after the procedure in order to get positive results of cosmetic treatment, these precautions are as follows:

  • Do not scratch on the skin after the procedure even if it feels tingling sensation and redness because it can lead to infection and excessive redness. 
  • Carefully follow all instructions of the skincare practitioner while cleaning the skin. 
  • While sleeping, take extra pillows at night that will help you to reduce swelling and discomfort. 
  • During the first 24 to 48 hours use cool compression and ice packs. 
  • Gently apply petroleum jelly and antibiotic ointment to the skin twice in a day.
  • Try to avoid performing the activities that can pose pressure on the skin.
  • Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking after the procedure.
