Rhinoplasty Surgery Procedure

Following are the significant steps of the surgery that contribute to reshape the structure of the nose:

  • Preoperative Consultation: Before undergoing rhinoplasty first meet with the surgeon and explain your desire for surgical outcome. And also discuss previous medical concerns and medications that you have been taking, before going for the Rhinoplasty.
  • Anesthesia: Once the examination of the nose is done a doctor will give you anesthesia to make you relax while the surgery is performing.
  • Incisions: Initially a surgeon starts to make incisions to access the nasal structure. An incision is made across the columella that allows the surgeon to lift the skin and see the underlying structures.
  • Closed Rhinoplasty: When procedure is started all incisions are made inside the nostrils to ignore the external scars and complexity .
  • Adjustment of Nose: Then a surgeon begins to reshape the nose through removing excess bone or mass and adds the tissues. By adjusting the bone and cartilage to a surgeon provides the desired shape and structure. Oftentimes, a graft from another part of the body might also be used in the procedure in order to alter the nose.
  • Closing Incisions: Once the procedure is done all incisions are attentively closed through stitches or staples. If it is required, internal splints packing might be placed to support the shape and to control bleeding.
  • Recovery: After the entire procedure is done a person might experience the swelling and bruises. For this a doctor will prescribe medications to manage pain and discomfort.
  • The recovery involves proper resting, avoiding strenuous activities and some instructions that are given by the doctor to you. Most candidates go back to their everyday activities in about a 1 to 2 week period, with positive results appearing after a few months.

Post Surgery

After the surgery procedure a person can experience the swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes, which is normal and considered as post surgery effects. The swelling and bruising goes down within 1 to 2 weeks and positive results would appear sooner. For managing pain and discomfort take medications suggested by the doctor. Additionally it is indispensable to rest and avoid those activities that put stress on the nose. Keep your head elevated in order to reduce the risk of bleeding and follow the surgeon’s instructions while cleaning the nose. Through following all the instructions of the doctor you will be soon able to return to your daily activities with a new nose structure.
