Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease, which develops due to damage in the immune system. This problem may affect different body parts of both men and women. It may occur at any age. This autoimmune condition creates trouble in walking due to joint pain or swelling. It can also cause memory and breathing problems in individuals. This problem is also called as lupus. 

The treatment of this health problem is most essential for them. It can only be possible through different medication drugs. They are helpful for the body’s immune system and provide protection from heart and kidney problems. A person is suggested to buy these medicines from different medical stores or online websites. 

Types of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

This health problem is of two kinds. These are as follows:

  • Lupus Nephritis: It occurs when kidney are damaged from this autoimmune disease. This problem may lead to death in patients. 
  • Neuropsychiatric Lupus: Some people may experience issues in the brain, spinal cord and nerves. It can cause memory loss and creates trouble in thinking or concentrating. 
  • Cutaneous Lupus: This problem can cause skin rashes or swelling in men and women. 
  • Neonatal Lupus: It develops when a fetus is affected by certain antibodies. This problem can cause lupus disease in unborn babies and become harmful for them. 

Causes of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

The exact cause of this autoimmune disease are as follows:

  • Genetic Disorders: A person who suffers from certain genetic conditions may have a higher risk of lupus. 
  • Hormone Therapy: The excessive amount of hormonal drugs can cause damage to the kidney or liver. This may leads to lupus disease in men and women. 
  • Air Pollution: When an individual is affected through carbon monoxide gas from certain vehicles, then he or she may experience this autoimmune disease. 
  • Exposure to Sunlight: A person may suffer from skin rashes, if he or she gets exposed to sunlight. This might cause lupus disease in him or her. 

Symptoms of Systemic Lupus

The symptoms of this health problem are as follows:

  • Loss of hair
  • Dyspnea
  • Joint pain or swelling
  • Fever
  • Swollen glands
  • Skin rashes
  • Swelling in arms, legs and face
  • Mouth sores
  • Seizures or convulsions
  • Blood clotting problems
  • Anemia
  • Heart disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Memory problem or confusion
  • Headache
  • Severe fatigue

 Diagnosis of this Autoimmune Disease

The problem can be diagnosed through different tests. These include the following:

  • A healthcare professional performs a physical exam to identify the potential signs and symptoms associated with lupus problems. 
  • A blood test will be conducted to examine the proper working of an immune system. This diagnostic procedure is also suggested for checking anemia and other health issues in male and female patients.
  • An urinalysis test is performed to check the signs of infection, which occur from kidney or liver disease. 
  • Some imaging tests are conducted to identify the location of an organ damage. 
  • A healthcare provider may performs a biopsy procedure through a needle device or a small incision. It is mainly essential for the management of skin and kidney diseases. 

What are the Common Medication Drugs suggested for the Treatment?

The medicines that are suggested for this autoimmune disease are:

  • Hydroxychloroquine: It is an anti-malarial medication that minimizes the risk of lupus disease and controls the immune system in patients. This drug is suggested for joint pain, skin rashes, etc. 
  • Corticosteroids: A patient may take these medications when he or she suffers from lupus inflammation. They are also suggested for kidney and brain issues. 
  • Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs: Aspirin, ibuprofen, etc, are some medicines that can be taken in tablet or capsule form. They should be restricted for 10 days or below. 
  • Immunosuppressant: An individual is suggested to take this drug, to control the overactivity of the immune system. This medicine provides protection from tissue damage and inflammation. 
  • Biological Drugs: Some people take a belimumab drug through an intravenous injection for the management of this autoimmune disease. This medicine may cause allergic reactions in them. 

Recovery and Aftercare

An individual is suggested to follow some rules and regulations for proper recovery. These are as follows:

  • Engage in meditation or breathing exercises to reduce stress level. 
  • Wear sun-protective clothing.
  • Do regular exercises.
  • Follow a proper nutrition diet.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Avoid smoking and alcohol.
