Blastocyst transfer is a medical IVF technique which is used to support pregnancy in women and decrease the chances of occurring multiple pregnancies. Meanwhile, it is an advanced technology where an embryo is developed in a lab under the supervision of medical experts for one week until it reaches the blastocyst stage. After that it is transferred to the uterus.

Furthermore, the procedure includes ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, fertilization, and embryo development for increasing the chances of pregnancy in females. The technique is popular among doctors worldwide. In the meantime, there are countless benefits of availing this treatment including, better embryo selection, higher chances of pregnancy, improved implantation rate and many more.

  • Higher pregnancy rates: According to medical experts blastocyst transfer has higher pregnancy rates other than other IVF techniques.
  • Lower miscarriage rates: Doctors also reckon that blastocyst have shown lower risks of miscarriages. 
  • Reduce the risks of multiple pregnancy: Since it is an advanced procedure and proceed under the supervision of medical experts. Hence, it reduces the risks of multiple pregnancies. 
  • Better Embryo Selection: This allows candidates to select better embryos for pregnancy. 
  • Improved Synchronization: Improved synchronization that means it gives better performance than other treatments procedures. 
  • Reduce uterine contractility: It reduces the uterine contractility that can occur by using certain medication and other treatments options. 

Risks Associated with Blastocyst Transfer 

Although blastocyst is a safe and reliable method that supports the IVF procedure however, in rare cases it can lead to several risks that are as follows:

  1. Implantation Failure: It can possible that embryo can be failed due to any reason however, it is not happened usually. 
  2. Higher Culture Duration: Higher culture duration may give stress or pressure to the embryos, and it can lead to a risk of developmental arrest. 
  3. Not all Embryos Reach the Blastocyst: According to experts not all embryos reach the blastocyst stage, which reduces the number of embryos available for transfer.

  • Those women who have multiple good-quality embryos.
  • Women under 35 years with a good ovarian reserve.
  • Those partners who are looking to minimize multiple pregnancies through single embryo transfer. 
  • Those who have experienced IVF failure. 

Procedure of Blastocyst Transfer 

The blastocyst transfer procedure done through following steps which are as follows:

Collection of eggs: In this procedure doctors eggs are extracted from the follicles by using a scanning probe. 

Fertilization: After that the eggs are fertilized with sperm from the partner or a donor. 

Embryo culture: Once the fertilization process is done the embryos are kept in the lab incubator until they reach the blastocyst stage. 

Transfer: when the embryo reaches the blastocyst stage it is then transferred to the woman’s uterus by using the specific medical tools under the consultation of an experienced gynecologist. 

Success Rate of Blastocyst Transfer 

The success rate of the procedure depends on numerous factors including age, quality of embryo, and overall reproductive health:  

  • Those women who are above age 35 have 50 to 60% chances of pregnancy rate.
  • Women ages 35 to 40 have 40 to 50% chances of success rate if they opt for the blastocyst transfer. 
  • And those women who are above 40 years of age have lower success rates however, they can benefit from genetic testing and embryo selection.
