Brain tumor is a rare and aggressive problem that affects millions of individuals in our world. It occurs due to growth and multiplication of abnormal cells in the brain. This problem creates trouble while reading books, novels, etc. It can also cause thinking and speaking issue in adults and children. This type of problem may develop in the form of benign or malignant. It may affect any location of the brain and become harmful for people. 

The health problem can be treated through surgery. It is a primary treatment, which is only recommended for non-cancer patients. A neurologist may also perform chemotherapy or radiation therapy in the healthcare department. He or she may also implements immunotherapy or targeted therapy for patients suffering from malignant tumors. 

Types of Brain Tumor

This health issue is of two kinds. These are as follows:

  • Benign Tumor: It is a non-cancerous disease that slowly grows in the brain. This problem is harmless and can be managed through surgery. 
  • Malignant Tumor: This type of tumor mainly occurs in the form of brain cancer. It can be treated through chemotherapy or radiation therapy. 

Causes of Brain Tumor

The exact cause of this health issue are as follows:

  • Genetic Disorders: A tumor might develop from neurofibromatosis, Von Hippel-Lindau disease, and other genetic conditions. 
  • Hormone Therapy: When a person uses a hormonal drug in excessive amounts, it may cause a brain tumor in him or her. 
  • Head Injuries: A head injury might occur in an individual while driving a vehicle or playing outdoor games. This problem can increase the risk of tumors in the brain. 
  • Smoking: If a person starts smoking cigarettes or tobacco products, then he or she may experience a brain tumor at a higher risk. 
  • Exposure to Radiation: Radiation exposure may cause DNA changes in the body cells. This might increase the risk of tumor and become harmful for patients. 

Symptoms of Brain Tumor

The symptoms that occur from brain tumor are as follows:

  • Abnormal changes in personality, behavior, mood, and emotional
  • Headaches
  • Balance problems or dizziness
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Weakness or paralysis at one side of the body
  • Vision and hearing issues
  • Difficulty in thinking and understanding 
  • Numbness or tingling in face, arms and legs
  • Loss of memory 
  • Hand tremor
  • Seizures or convulsions
  • Reduced alertness

Procedure of Brain Tumor Treatment

The treatment procedure is as follows: 

Before Procedure

The following things can be expected before the surgical procedure. These are as follows: 

  • A patient or a legal representative must sign a consent form in the healthcare department. 
  • The healthcare professional will review the patient’s medical history and perform a physical exam to identify the potential signs and symptoms associated with this health issue. 
  • A neurological exam will be conducted to examine the function of the brain and nervous system. This test is beneficial for those patients who suffer from neurological disorders. 
  • The contrast material will be injected into one part of a vein to view the tumor easily. 
  • A CT scan or an MRI scan will be performed to check the shape, size and location of a tumor in the brain. The other body parts will also be checked from these imaging tests. 
  • A neurosurgeon may performs a brain biopsy to check whether a tumor is cancerous or non-cancerous. This procedure can be performed through surgery or a stereotactic brain biopsy. 
  • The spinal tap test will be implemented to identify the cancer cells that can cause tumors in the brain. It can only be possible by removing cerebrospinal fluid through a small needle. 

During Procedure

The things that take place in the medical center are the following: 

  • A surgeon performs a craniotomy to remove the abnormal cells from the brain. It is a brain surgery that is essential for patients who suffer from benign problems. 
  • A chemotherapy drug will be given to cancer patients through an intravenous injection. 
  • The radiation therapy will be performed through the high-energy powerful beams. It is mainly essential to destroy cancer cells that can cause tumor problems in the brain. 
  • A neurologist performs an immunotherapy or a targeted therapy for cancer patients if above treatment approaches are not effective. 

After Procedure

A patient should stay in the hospital for a few days. He or she will be taken into the recovery room for the identification of health complications associated with a tumor. After that, an individual is suggested to go home and follow some rules and regulations. These are as follows: 

  • Avoid alcohol and smoking
  • Drink plenty of water or stay hydrated
  • Follow a proper nutrition diet for overall health. 
  • Engage in meditation or breathing exercises.
