Robotic Hysterectomy Treatment

  • Description
Description

This procedure is also called a robotic-assisted hysterectomy and is carried out by a team of specialized doctors using robotic equipment. Hysterectomy surgery is used to remove a woman’s uterus. It also removes additional organs, such as the ovaries or fallopian tubes, depending on the cause for the surgery. In some cases, doctors may recommend a robotic hysterectomy for patients. This minimally invasive laparoscopic technique utilizes robotic technology and small instruments. It also allows surgeons to carry out intricate surgical procedures through small cuts.

A comprehensive range of motion that is more accurate than the human hand is made possible by robotic hysterectomy. It also offers a powerful 3-D view of the operating area. Using surgical instruments from various positions and angles is also made possible by it, which would otherwise be laborious. As compared to this new method with an open or laparoscopic process, there are several advantages, such as fewer incisions, less blood loss, quicker recovery, and better surgical results.

Types of Robotic Hysterectomy Treatment

  • Supracervical Robotic: It removes the big part of the female internal reproductive organ while leaving the uterine cervix intact. It is only done on a small number of patients with other uterine conditions.
  • Total Robotic-Assisted: In this case, removing the womb and cervix. Endometrial cancer and other gynecologic conditions are suitably treated with this type of surgery.
  • Total Robotic along with Oophorectomy: In this critical condition, one or both female gonads and fallopian tubes are removed. This is the best treatment option for ovarian cancer and other benign gynecologic conditions.
  • Radical Robotic Process: Womb, cervix, and a portion of the vagina are removed. A large part of the ligaments and tissues that lie near these organs are also cut off.

For Whom or When Robotic Hysterectomy Required?

It is recommended for those people who have certain gynecological conditions or diseases. This procedure treats several types of conditions. A healthcare expert may advise it if they have conditions like:

  • Pelvic pain
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Uterine fibroid
  • Uterine cancer
  • Uterine prolapse
  • Endometriosis
  • Cervical cancer
  • Endometrial cancer

Benefits of Robotic Hysterectomy

  • Less Invasive: Only a single, usually small, stomach cut is made, which lessens trauma and scarring to the surrounding tissues.
  • Pain Reduction: Surgeons can execute the procedure with more control and precision thanks to the robotic system, which lessens post-operative pain.
  • Less Blood Loss: The robotic system minimizes blood loss during the procedure by enabling precise dissection and control.
  • Reduced Recovery Time: Patients can even return home the same day or the next day. They usually recover in two to four weeks.

Risks of Robotic-Assisted Hysterectomy

  • Infections
  • Bleeding
  • Thrombosis
  • Nerve damage
  • Bladder or bowel damage
  • Ureteral injury
  • Adhesions
  • Reaction to anesthesia

Cost-Affecting Factors of Robotic Hysterectomy

The cost of this procedure may differ. It depends on multiple factors, such as:

  • The hospital
  • Types of process
  • The patient’s condition
  • Room selection
  • The surgeon’s experience.

Diagnosis Tests

  • Women should discuss their medical history and symptoms with their doctor.
  • A proper physical examination is performed to assess the abnormalities.
  • Diagnostic tests
    • Blood tests
    • Ultrasounds
    • CT scans
    • MRIs
    • X-rays

Procedure of Robotic Hysterectomy

Before the Process

  • Patients should stop eating and drinking anything before the surgery.
  • Tolerant people are also advised to stop taking any medications.
  • You will be asked to put on a hospital gown.
  • Nursing team will start an IV in your arm or wrist. For giving medicine or fluids during the surgery.

During the Procedure

Anesthesia and Incision

  • The medical team will administer general anesthesia. It guarantees that throughout the operation, the patient stays asleep and has no pain.
  • A urinary tube is inserted to empty the bladder.
  • A tiny cut is made in the stomach to implant the tubes. From these tubes robotic arms and instruments will be inserted.

Robotic System Setup

  • The specialist sits at a console near the operating table. And ready to control the robotic system.
  • This console provides a magnified, 3-D view of the surgical area.

Execution of Surgery

  • The robotic arms and instruments are controlled by the surgeon from the console.
  • The doctor handled the robotic arms from the table. And translate their hand movements into exact robotic actions within one’s body.
  • The uterus is carefully detached from surrounding tissues with the help of robotic tools. After that, all the blood vessels are sealed. And the womb is removed through one of the small cuts or by the vagina.
  • With the help of adhesive strips or stitches, small cuts are closed.

After Procedure

  • The whole process takes around two to three hours, which is shorter than open surgery.
  • Following that, the sufferer will be observed in the recovery room.
  • Patients can be sent home from the hospital after one to two days.

Post Robotic Hysterectomy Care

Aftercare of hysterectomy or other types of hysterectomy surgery (eg, robotic surgery) is essential for a woman. You can follow the instructions given below:

  • Women are advised to take their routine medications.
  • Keep their incision area clean and dry.
  • A fiber-rich diet and plenty of water should be taken.
  • People are advised to stop the sexual activity for a few days.
