What is Hymen?

Hymen is a type of tissue that is responsible for keeping the reproductive system healthy. When the hymen is affected by any cause it creates problems during sex and the menstrual cycle in women.

The other definition of hymen is that it is a piece of tissue that covers part of the female’s vaginal opening. It is present at birth and changes with time due to hormonal imbalance. Hymen can be changes over time in many different situation these include:

  • Hymen tissue may get thick or swollen because of maternal hormones.
  • The hymen may get thin, dry or smooth due to Pre-puberty.
