Cyber Knife Robotic Radiation Treatment

  • Description
Description

CyberKnife is the advanced robotic radiation treatment (CRRT) method purposely designed to treat cancer or tumor. The treatment involves delivering high doses of  radiation to diminish the size of the tumor while preventing the surrounding healthy tissues. CyberKnife device contains a lot of sub-systems and devices which help in tracking the location of the tumor along with imaging and computer controlled highly accurate robots and modern robotic patient positioning systems.

All these contribute to make it easy to detect and treat the tumor with high accuracy. It is a non-invasive procedure that can successfully treat any kind of tumor whether it is cancerous or non-cancerous. During this therapy a robotic arm-mounted linear accelerator moves around the patient targeting from thousands of unique angles to reduce the tumor which could occur in any part of the body including brain, liver, spine, lung, kidney etc. According to medical experts it is an excellent treatment approach for those patients who are sensitive to traditional therapy .

Benefits of CRRT

  • Non-invasive
  • Painless
  • No requirement of anaesthesia
  • Outpatient procedure
  • No Recovery Required
  • Resume daily activities on same day
  • Less complications

CyberKnife Robotic Radiation Cost in India

The treatment is estimated around 5 lakhs to 15 lakh rupees in India however, it is not considered as a final cost. The overall cost of the treatment depends of various factors including:

  • City location
  • Hospital Type
  • Size of tumor
  • Complexity of the case

How the Therapy Works

The cyberKnife radiosurgery system contains a robotic patient bed which is capable of moving in six different directions to get into the exact position. It also has a device that captures powerful x-rays to treat tumours. And the device is linked to a robot arm that can move in six ways.

Using a computer and pictures to find the exact location of the tumor. CyberKnife is able to treat tumors with amazing accuracy. It is so precise that it can hit the target less than a size of rice grain. Medical experts reckon that the treatment is way better than traditional methods due to its advancement.

Cyberknife RadiationTreatment

  • Cyberknife radiation is a type of stereotactic body radiation therapy which involves using robotic arms to bring high doses of radiation to the tumor. During the procedure the robotic arm is guided by a computer system that uses images to track the tumor’s location.
  • The treatment is delivered in 5 sessions that lasts for 30 to 90 minutes. Although the total sessions may require based on the size and location of the tumor. Meanwhile, high doses of radiation may cause some side effects.
  • Initially the patient needs to lie on a treatment table while the robotic arms move around the patient to deliver the radiation. In the meantime the computer system linked with the robotics system continuously monitors the patient’s condition.

Features of Cyberknife Treatment

1. Cyberknife is a radiosurgery procedure which does not require incisions rather it involves a complex operation technique utilized for treating   numerous difficult tumors that are hard to treat by the doctors surgically. Hence, this SRC/SRT- based method enables the precise targeting of small, inaccessible and inoperable lesions with millimetre accuracy.

2. It is an alternative treatment of traditional surgery. It does not need incision-based surgery. In the meantime the treatment provides freedom to the patients for difficult tumors or complex operations.

3. CyberKnife treatment is usually performed in a single session or up to five sessions, depending on the patient’s specific wants. During the procedure, both tumor and patient movements are continuously monitored using computer-controlled robotic technology and an advanced image-guidance system. This ensures that any real-time changes during the treatment are identified and adjusted accordingly.

4. The system accurately tracks respiratory movements and the corresponding tumor shifts, making real-time adjustments to deliver radiation accordingly. It is also capable of treating multiple tumors simultaneously. The procedure is completely painless, eliminating the need for anesthesia, ensuring that patients experience no discomfort during the treatment.

5. During CyberKnife treatment, water-soluble plastic masks and specially designed beds are used to gently secure the patient’s condition, particularly in the head and body regions, ensuring comfort without causing any physical discomfort. This procedure does not require hospitalization, and patients can typically resume their daily routines and return to work immediately after obtaining the treatment.
