Endometriosis Treatment

  • Description
Description

Nearly 10 % of American women are affected by endometriosis, and it is confined to female reproductive organs in the abdomen or pelvis. Very seldom, endometriosis growth is seen outside the pelvic organ area.

The organs most affected are, namely:

  • The tissue lining the pelvic,
  • The Fallopian tubes, and
  • The ovaries.

The aim of this endometriosis treatment is to manage symptoms and enhance the quality of life of the patient.

Types of Endometriosis Surgery

Laparoscopy:

  • It is a minimally invasive technique where a small incision is made in the abdomen part and after that a narrow scope is inserted into the uterus. The device contains a camera and light which purpose is to see the cause on the monitor screen.

Laparotomy:

  • This procedure is performed to detect the patches that are taking place into the organ areas. the significant of this abdominal surgery is to remove big endometriosis patches that may have migrated to other organs.

Hysterectomy

  • A surgery that gets rid of the uterus.

Oophorectomy:

  • An operation to remove the ovaries.

Causes

Exact causes of endometriosis have not been established but a few causes as below can be vital:

  • Lymph or blood system transport:
    • Endometrial tissues travel throughout the body via the blood or lymphatic systems, much like cancer cells do.
  • Direct transplantation:
    • Endometrial cells may adhere to the abdominal or other body walls following surgery, such as a C-section or hysterectomy.
  • Genetics:
    • Endometriosis is linked to genes, as it appears to affect certain families more frequently than others.
  • Reverse menstruation
    • This occurs when endometrial tissue enters the fallopian tubes and the abdomen, rather than leaving the woman’s body in her periods.
  • Transformation:
    • Endometrial cells can transform from other cells in the body and develop outside the endometrium.

Symptoms

Aching periods:

  • Pelvic irritation and cramps may begin before the start of a menstrual period, and continue for many days. You may also have lower back or abdominal ache.

Pain during sex:

  • Endometriosis often causes pain during or after sex.

Pain during bowel motions or urination:

  • You are most likely to experience these symptoms before or throughout your menstrual cycle.

Unreasonable bleeding:

  • You may experience severe menstrual cycles or inter-menstrual bleeding.

Infertility:

  • Some women discover endometriosis during infertility exams.

Other symptoms:

  • Lethargy
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Bloating
  • Nausea

Risk Factors

Family history:

  • This painful condition can affect a mother, sister, or daughter. Endometriosis can be carried on either from the father or the mother.

Early menstruation:

  • Women who start menstruation at a young age are more likely to develop endometriosis.

Short periods:

  • Women who have a shorter menstrual cycle-less than 27 days on average are more susceptible to this ill-health.

Heavy periods:

  • On the other hand, those women whose period lasts more than 7 days are at more risk to this condition.

Nulliparity:

  • Women who have never given birth are more likely to acquire endometriosis.

Infertility:

  • Women who are infertile are more likely to acquire endometriosis.

Dysmenorrhea:

  • Women who endure terrible menstrual cramps are more likely to develop endometriosis.
  • Endometriosis Treatment and its Procedure

1) Laparoscopy is a normal surgery.

Many small cuts are made in the abdomen to locate and remove endometrial tissue and scar tissue.

Excision:

  • The surgeon eliminates the endometriosis tissue. This tissue can be submitted to a laboratory for testing.

Ablation:

  • To kill endometriosis tissue the surgeon uses heat. This procedure may leave some tissue in place.

Scar tissue removal:

  • The surgeon may remove any scar tissue that has accumulated in the area.

2) Oophorectomy:

  • This is a surgical surgery that removes one or both ovaries. For sharp and permanent menopause bilateral oophorectomy is preferred.

3) Hormonal contraception:

  • Birth control pills, injections, patches, and vaginal rings regulate the hormones that stimulate endometriosis.
  • These can help relieve or eliminate pain while also making periods lighter and shorter.

Factors that affect Endometriosis Surgery Cost

Gynecologist Charges:

  • Charges vary depending on the surgeon’s experience, treatment type and how well-known the doctor is.

Types of surgery:

  • Depending on the open surgery, laparoscopic or robotic etc. the cost is different. Medical condition is also taken into account here.

Hospital or clinical facility:

  • The geographical location of the clinic highly affects the cost. A clinic in a big city is likely to cost you more than the one in a small city.

Surgery related expenses:

  • Pre-surgical costs can include daily medical tests, check-ups to make sure you are fit for the surgery. Post-surgical costs can include prescribed drugs and follow-ups with the doctor.

Endometriosis Prevention

Exercise:

  • Regular workouts and exercise can help a person to decrease the amount of estrogen in the body that is causing problem.

Caffeine and Alcohol:

  • Avoid consuming alcohol and caffeine or other substance that comprises the chemicals which leads to release of estrogen. Consuming these  products raises the estrogen level in the body and it leads to further health complications.

Awareness:

  • Observing Knowing all of the symptoms, and if one is at high risk of the illness, then consult with a doctor for early advice and treatment.
