As the signification of the scalp provides nourishment and safeguards it from aggravation and related problems. Further treatments can also focus on dandruff, scalp itching, or loss of hair. The possibilities available range from topical treatments, oral drugs, conditioners, and medicated shampoos to advanced treatments like hair transplantation and laser treatment.

Hair and Scalp Types

The 4 typical scalp and hair types that most people have are:

  • Dry
  • Oily
  • Balanced
  • Mixed

Depending on the amount of sebum produced by the sebaceous glands of the body, the condition of the skin, scalp, and hair affects the growth accordingly. Sebum is naturally produced in the body and various factors that regulate it are such as food intake, circulation of blood, age factor, and use of medicines.

Various Problems Associated with Hair and Scalp

Hair Loss:

  • A result of heredity, age factor, side-effects of medicines, stress.

Dandruff:

    • A common condition of the scalp where flakes of dry skin white or gray in color, are visible on the scalp and hair. When a lot of oil is present on the scalp, the skin cells build up and the scalp can be red, oily, or scaly. As a result, the scales quickly flake off and dandruff is visible on the hair.

Seborrheic dermatitis:

    • This is a skin condition responsible for dandruff. Formed in the shape of an itchy rash on the scalp to cause flaky scales.

Alopecia:

    • A prolonged autoimmune disease that results from a sudden loss of hair on the scalp, face, and at times other parts of the body.

Procedure for the Hair and Scalp Treatment

  • Diagnosis: This is the initial stage to evaluate the hair or scalp condition for the presence of dandruff, alopecia, or scalp dermatitis.
  • Treatment Plan Guide: Once the patient is diagnosed for symptoms, and his medical history is checked a treatment plan guide can be considered that includes, topical treatments, lifestyle changes, oral medications, and advanced procedures.
  • Topical treatments: These can include medicated shampoos, different conditioners to effectively treat dandruff, itching, or inflammation.
  • Lifestyle changes: These can include changes in the diet plan, decrease in the stress, massaging the scalp and suitable hair care practices.
  • Oral medications: In rare cases, oral medications like the intake of corticosteroids or supplements that will target the promotion of hair growth or target the main cause of scalp and hair issues.
  • Monitoring: Regular visit with the doctor to monitor the response to treatment and any changes in the treatment plan to be made as per the doctor’s recommendation. To achieve optimum results the doctor may necessitate additional procedures.

The below-mentioned natural remedies provide some relief in case of a dry scalp:

Coconut oil:

  • The antifungal and antibacterial properties of the oil help to decrease the infections.
  • Known to be one of the best oils that protects against hair loss, the lauric acid present in it is easily absorbed deep inside the hair roots to give them strong growth.

Tea tree oil:

  • This natural ingredient has strong antiseptic, antifungal, and antibiotic properties that easily alleviate dry scalp and promote hair growth. By adding small parts of diluted tea tree oil to your shampoo, it helps to decrease a buildup of dead cells and unwanted chemicals. This makes the hair healthy without the hair falling.

Aloe vera:

  • Hydration that helps the scalp and the hair to moisture and hair growth is enhanced.
  • Regulating oily hair by means of enzymes present, which break down excess oil present in the scalp.
  • A natural protective layer around the hair is created by aloe vera that shields it from ultraviolet radiation.

Apple cider vinegar (ACV):

  • The antimicrobial nature present in this fermented product fortifies hair roots and stimulates hair growth. ACV regulates the pH levels in the scalp and decreases the itching and dandruff.

Yogurt and eggs:

  • Acting as an exfoliator for hair and providing a soothing effect to the skin.
  • The lactic acid in the yogurt cleans the scalp, removes the nonliving cells, and aids in the growth of hair follicles.
  • Eggs are rich in proteins that promote healthy and strong hair.

Risks Associated with Hair and Scalp Treatment

  • Before applying any new product, especially essential oils a test patch for allergic reaction should be carried out.
  • When buying these essential oils go for a quality brand as these types of oils are hardly manufactured as per quality standards.
  • Dry scalp can be a trouble if proper care is not taken and on repeated scratching it can lead to hair loss.
