Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery that is used to increase the size of the breasts. It changes the shape, appearance, and size of the breasts, and it is also called mammoplasty. It gives the volume, which looks fuller with the correct shape. This breast enhancement improves the woman’s personality, image of the body, and boosts confidence.

Around 1.9 million individuals have undergone this procedure. This cosmetic surgery is very popular among individuals all around the world. It is done by a plastic surgeon who gives a desired shape and size of the breast to their patient. It may include some risks, so it is better to consult with an experienced surgeon equipped with advanced technology.

Types of Breast Implantation

There are multiple types of breast implants and breast augmentation procedures, including: 

  • Saline Implants: In this silicone shell is filled with sterile saltwater which gets implanted into the breast. After breaking this water, it will be absorbed.
  • Structured Implants: It includes both silicon gel and saline, in which the silicon shell is filled with saline. This gives more natural appearance to the shape of the breast.
  • Silicone Implants: To give more natural shape, this type of implant is made up with a viscous silicone gel. It gives lots of options to women because these are available in various sizes, shapes to look more natural.
  • Fat Transfer: It is a grafting process in which surgeons harvest or cut fat cells from your fatty body parts. Like, thigh, hips, stomach, etc. This is done through the liposuction process, in which these fat cells are transferred into your breast through injection.
  • Smooth Breast Implant: It is a very soft type of implant that gives a more natural look, which can be felt under the skin.
  • Round Breast Implant: It makes the breast look big and fuller, it does not change the appearance of the breast.

  • It gives you a more balanced and attractive figure by uplifting and increasing its size and shape.

  • To change the symmetry of the breast due to uneven size.
  • Gives a more even and natural appearance.
  • It helps to restore its volume by making it look fuller to give a youthful essence.
  • Can wear body-fitting clothes.

Breast Augmentation Procedure 

There are some preparations that have to be done before going for the surgery to enlarge the breast, and these are as follows:

Pre-Procedure

It is the first step in which patient decides about breast augmentation and took an appointment with a plastic surgeon, which includes:

  • Advice like quitting smoking.
  • Run some blood tests.
  • Stop the use of recreational medications.
  • Medicines that increase bleeding should be stopped.
  • Be on a specific diet by avoiding some kinds of foods and beverages.

During the Procedure

Its procedure includes some steps, and these are mentioned below:

  • Anesthesia: It is the first step in which a person is given a local anesthesia to make them comfortable through the entire surgical procedure, which is given intravenously.
  • Incision: It is an important step of the breast augmentation in which the surgeon will make single cuts, but in three different places. It is easy to determine which approach will be suited to you and to reduce the visibility of scar.
    • Inframammary: It is cut under the line of the breast.
    • Periareolar: A cut around the nipple.
    • Transaxillary:  When a cut is made at your armpit.
  • Breast Implant: Breast implant can be done in two ways by making a pocket.
    • It is a submuscular process in which an implant is inserted under the breast muscle to look more natural.
    • This implant is placed over the pectoral muscle, i.e, submammary.

Note: This method depends on your requirement, body type, and the advice from your cosmetic surgeon.

  • Stitches: After placing those implants, it is time to close those cuts that were made in the breast tissues. There are many ways to close that incision, like surgical tape, skin adhesive, and sutures.

Post-Procedure

After completing the procedure, you will remain in the hospital for observation until you get stable. Your surgeon will provide some pain-relieving medicines, ointments, etc. You have to follow some instructions after the surgery and attend follow-up visits. After one week, your doctor will remove those stitches.

Note: If you experience any redness, itching, infection, etc, then you should seek medical advice from your surgeon.

What Things Should You Not Do After the Treatment?

There are some things that should be taken care of, and avoid these things:

  • No need to take a bath.
  • Sleep on your back, not on your tummy.
  • Quit smoking.
  • No physical activity.
  • Do not take other medications until the doctor prescribes them for you.
  • Swimming is not allowed.
  • You should avoid heavy lifting.
