Procedure of Bariatric Surgery

There are two types of procedure, which will be explained in detail:

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery

It is a very common surgery which makes a new connection to the tract of your digestive system. It is a non-reversible process which helps to reduce nutrients absorption. The procedure creates a new link between a small part of your stomach and the small intestine. Due to its new small size it makes you feel full and absorbs less nutrients. It has two surgical approaches, which includes open and laparoscopic technique.

Procedure

  • A doctor gives general anesthesia to the patient to numb the site.
  • The size of the cut is made depending on its type, like open or laparoscopic.
  • Reduces the size of the upper part of the stomach to a small pouch.
  • Then this new stomach part gets linked with the part of the small intestine. It becomes Y-shaped.

This change in the stomach makes huge curviness which looks like a banana shape. Its open ends are stitched with surgical sutures or sutures. It is quite common and more effective in reducing weight than any other process. The risk of ulcer is very low. After reducing the size of the stomach, some changes occur in gut hormones which contribute to losing weight.

Procedure

  • A general anesthesia is given to an individual.
  • The surgeon makes 5 minor cuts in your abdomen.
  • A long and thin tube with an attached camera is used throughout the entire process.
  • Instruments are used to extract most of part of the stomach.
  • The whole process is seen with the help of a camera on the screen.
  • Then, after taking out part of the stomach, the rest of its parts look like a banana.
  • Its opening ends are closed using stitches.

Advantages

  • Remission of type 2 diabetes.
  • Control calories intake.
  • Reduce craving for food.
  • Control type 2 diabetes.
  • It alters the composition of microorganisms which live in our digestive tract.
  • Affects the conversion process of food and absorption of nutrients.
