Eye Muscle Repair Treatment

  • Description
Description

Eye muscle surgery is a procedure used to repair misalignment of the eyes. In this condition an individual’s eye crosses inward or outward. The condition is also called strabismus. It occurs due to a lack of eye-muscle coordination which means certain eye muscles that control eye movement do not work together properly. This leads to one or both eyes turning inward, upward, downward, and outward. As a result, the eyes could not focus on a single point or object.

Children are most likely to be diagnosed with strabismus however, it can also affect adults. When a child has strabismus, his eyes won’t line up properly. As a result, the eyes appear in different directions which affects a child’s self-esteem and overall well-being. Hence it is important to treat strabismus on time to ignore the risks of lifelong eyesight problems. When an individual has severe eye muscle problem then ophthalmologists suggest for the eye muscle surgery treatment which aids in realigning the eyes and improving the eye appearance.

Eye Muscle Surgery Benefits

Following are the primary benefits of availing eye muscle treatment:

  • Improve Eyesight: through repairing the misalignment of the eyes, the surgery improves depth perception and binocular vision, making everyday tasks easier and more comfortable.
  •  Reduce Eye Strain: Individuals who are suffering with strabismus often experience eye fatigue and a strain in the eye. This happened due to the effort needed to focus and align their eyes. Hence, the eye muscle surgery helps in reducing these kinds of symptoms and improves eye movement.
  • Boost Self-Esteem: Lots of children suffering misalignment of eyes experience low self-esteem about their look and avoid indulging in social activities. Therefore, by correcting eye muscle activities can enhance confidence and social well-being.
  • Prevent Amblyopia: In children untreated strabismus can cause amblyopia. It is a condition in which the brain only favors one eye working. By correcting the misalignment early, eye muscle surgery can prevent this condition.

Before Surgery

  • Before surgery the doctor will do some examinations to check the overall condition of the eyes.
  • After reviewing the examination reports the doctor will provide the suitable treatment options which are best for you.
  • Once all is done a healthcare provider will schedule surgery time if it requires.

During Surgery

The surgical steps include:

  • On the surgery day your child needs to lie on the operating table once all is set the doctor will provide anesthesia to the child.
  • In the meantime, all vital organs of the patient are in control to stabilize the patient’s condition.
  • The entire procedure probably will take 30 minutes to 1 hour period.
  • After that the eye specialist used a tiny retractor to gently open the eyelids and hold them in that position for the duration of the surgery.
  • Once it is done the ophthalmologist will rotate the eye and make an incision into the conjunction.
  • In the next step the eye surgeon will locate the muscles that need to be repaired. The muscles are clearly visible through the conjunctival incision without the help of a camera.
  • Once the muscle is positioned in its right place, the incisions that are made in the conjunctive are repaired with absorbable sutures.

Close monitoring is also essential for better recovery.  Most patients can return to their normal activities within a week however, however in some cases it may take several months for the eyes to fully adjust and align.
