Myomectomy Treatment

  • Description
Description

A surgical procedure called myomectomy is a gynecological treatment procedure. It is performed by the experinced gynecologist to remove the uterine fibroids from the female’s uterus. Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths that develop within the muscular wall of the uterus. These myomas usually develop during childbearing years. However, they can occur at any age. Infertility problems, excessive menstrual bleeding, discomfort and pelvic pain are the symptoms of this health concern. Women who want to reduce discomfort, maintain their fertility, or postpone can opt for the hysterectomy treatment in India to get rid of uterine fibroids. Having hysterectomy can benefit women from fibroidectomy and can improve the over all health.

What Does Myomectomy Treat?

A doctor may recommend this surgery if you have leiomyomas that are causing:

  • Heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Irregular bleeding
  • Pelvic pain
  • Ureteral obstruction
  • Discomfort
  • Pressure on the intestines and bladder

Types of Myomectomy

There are four fibroid removal techniques, such as:

  • Abdominal Myomectomy: In this process, the surgeon makes a single large cut in the stomach to reach the uterus and remove the myomas. Usually recovery takes four to six weeks.
  • Laparoscopic Fibroidectomy: To remove the fibroids, the physician makes many small cuts in the stomach. After that, the doctor inserts a laparoscope along with specialized instruments. Recovery takes less time, typically two to four weeks.
  • Robotic Method: The surgeon performs a robotic-assisted myomectomy, removing the fibroids while seated at a console and tries to control robotic arms. There is little blood loss and accurate dissection with this process.
  • Hysteroscopic Fibroidectomy: Direct from the cervix, a small camera is used to inspect the uterine cavity. It also helps in removing the uterine leiomyomas. This type of fibroidectomy is the least intrusive and requires one to two days of rehabilitation.

Procedure of Myomectomy

Here is the process of myomectomy treatment from start to end:

Before Procedure

  • A doctor will thoroughly analyze the patient, including a physical examination and imaging tests like ultrasound or MRI.
  • These tests serve to evaluate the size, location, and quantity of fibroids, as well as surgical planning.
  • Additionally, the patient may be instructed to abstain from food and liquids.

During Procedure

  • This surgery works under general anesthesia. It ensures that the patient remains asleep and does not feel any pain during the procedure.
  • Such procedures entirely depend upon the size, number, and location of the myomas.
  • In a laparoscopic or robotic-assisted method, small cuts are made. In this case, special tools are used to remove the fibroids.
  • In open surgery, an elongated cut is made in the belly to access the womb and remove the myomas.
  • The intromission of a thin tube through the cervix is also known as hysteroscopy. This helps to remove non-cancerous tumors from the womb. These are located inside the uterine cavity.
  • To encourage healing and reduce the chance of any difficulty, the doctor carefully repairs the uterine wall after removing the fibroids. Sewing the wounds or employing other methods to guarantee proper closure may be required.

After Procedure

  • The patient will be shifted to the recovery room. Where he or she will be monitored for six to eight hours after the surgery. At last, the sufferer will be shifted to the hospital room.
  • After the operation is complete, the tolerant is unable to eat or drink for a short time.
  • Some drugs are prescribed for pain and nausea if necessary.
  • Once you feel better, you can start walking. It helps in healing and recovery.

Benefits of Myomectomy Surgery

  • One of the most often used surgical techniques for uterine fibroids.
  • Preservation of fertility.
  • Improved quality of life.
  • Reduced risk of adhesion and serious health conditions.
  • It can lead to a faster recovery time.

Risks Associated with Myomectomy

  • Excessive loss of blood
  • Scar tissue
  • Complications during pregnancy or childbirth
  • Rare chances of hysterectomy
  • Risk of uterine rupture
  • Recurrence of fibroid

Does Myomectomy Leave Scars?

Yes, a little scar from a myomectomy is there. Only in the event of a hysteroscopic process would you not have a scar. The scar from an open fibroidectomy will be below the line of your underpants. Your laparoscopic method scars will be closer to your belly button and smaller. Wearing a short shirt or two-piece bathing suit could make them more obvious. Most scars go away with time. In case your scar hurts or is sensitive, get in touch with your healthcare professional.
