IUD Removal Treatment Procedure

a) Before the procedure

  • IUD removal is a quick and less pain full procedure hence, you no need to remove it by yourself. A woman must remove it under the consultation of a doctor in order to avoid further health complications.
  • Before leaving for the hospital or clinic doctors recommend or prescribe you some certain medication in advance. These medicines will help to ease you during the procedure.
  • You need to take a shower or bath as you generally do before going for the removal process.

b) During the Process

  • Firstly the doctor will ask you to lie on the bed or an examination bed with your knees bent and legs apart for the procedure.
  • A healthcare provider will begin inserting a medical tool called a speculum into the vagina to widen the opening of the vaginal walls and start seeing the location of the IUD.
  • After that doctor will start gently pulling a string that is attached to the device by using a forceps tool.
  • The arms of the t-shaped device will fold upward as it moves slowly out of the uterus through the door of vagina.
  • Once the procedure is done the doctor will remove the speculum from the vagina.
  • A woman may experience mild cramping and light bleeding right after the procedure. However, these side effects can be managed by the medications.

c) After the Procedure

  • The consulted doctor will prescribe you certain medication in order to manage side effects of the procedure.
  • You’ll also suggest resting properly for a few days for better recovery and do not participate in heavy activities.
