Intrauterine Device (IUD) Removal Treatment

  • Description
Description

Those women who have gone through intrauterine device placement treatment need to undergo an IUD removal procedure. If they want to get pregnant. As we know IUD is a birth control device that helps to control pregnancy. It is a T-shaped device that is inserted by a healthcare provider into the uterus through a simple procedure. This device’s main purpose is to release synthetic hormones in a woman’s body to prevent pregnancy. It can prevent pregnancy for 5 to 10 years.

However, if a woman finds no need for the device or does not find it effective enough, then she can opt for an intrauterine device removal treatment under the consultation of a gynecologist. Furthermore, a healthcare provider can suggest or recommend that you remove the IUD in different conditions.

Reasons To Remove an IUD

The following are reasons to remove an IUD.

  • Desire to get Pregnant: If you want to get pregnant, then you must undergo the IUD removal procedure.
  • Irregular Bleeding: If a woman is experiencing heavy or irregular bleeding after IUD placement, then she must remove the device from the uterus.
  • IUD Side Effects: IUD side effects, like pain during sex, cramping, and dizziness, occur to you, then this could be a reason to remove the T-shaped device.
  • Intrauterine Pregnancy: If a woman gets pregnant even after the insertion of the IUD, then a healthcare provider needs to remove it from the body.
  • Cervical or Uterine Malignancy: If you are suffering from cervical problems or uterine-related concerns in this situation a doctor suggests you remove the IUD device.
  • Jaundice or Sexually Transmitted Diseases: If you are experiencing jaundice or STD health concerns, then you need to immediately remove the IUD to avoid further health complications.

Intrauterine device removal treatment has various benefits, which are mentioned below:

Intrauterine Device (IUD) Removal Treatment Procedure

Before the Procedure

  • IUD removal is a quick and less painful procedure hence, you do not need to remove it by yourself. A woman must remove it under the consultation of a doctor in order to avoid further health complications.
  • Before leaving for the hospital or clinic, doctors recommend or prescribe certain medication in advance. These medicines will help to ease you during the procedure.
  • You need to take a shower or bath as you generally do before going for the removal process.

During the Process

  • Firstly, the doctor will ask you to lie on the bed or an examination bed with your knees bent and legs apart for the procedure.
  • A healthcare provider will begin inserting a medical tool called a speculum into the vagina to widen the opening of the vaginal walls and start seeing the location of the IUD.
  • After that doctor will start gently pulling a string that is attached to the device by using a forceps tool.
  • The arms of the T-shaped device will fold upward as it moves slowly out of the uterus through the door of vagina.
  • Once the procedure is done, the doctor will remove the speculum from the vagina.
  • A woman may experience mild cramping and light bleeding right after the procedure. However, these side effects can be managed with the medications.

After the Procedure

  • The consulted doctor will prescribe you certain medication in order to manage the side effects of the procedure.
  • You’ll also suggest resting properly for a few days for better recovery and not participating in heavy activities.
