Hysterosonography Treatment

  • Description
Description

Hysterosonography treatment is a diagnostic imaging process that uses ultrasound technology to inspect the inside of the uterus. It is a safe and minimally invasive test that does not involve any type of radiation exposure. This is also known as sonohysterography. This can help your healthcare experts see problem areas in your womb and its lining. It also helps to examine many problems, such as unexplained vaginal bleeding, infertility, and miscarriages.

How Hysterosonography Work?

A catheter is inserted into the uterus, followed by a speculum in the vagina. A little amount of sterile saline solution is delivered into the uterus through the tube. To see the saline-filled uterus, an ultrasound transducer is inserted into the vagina. The sonography machine creates images of the womb, allowing the doctor to detect any abnormal condition.

Indications for Hysterosonography

It is used to know the female internal reproductive organ cavity and diagnose various health disorders. These are listed below:

  • Infertility
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding
  • Endometrial cancer
  • Uterine polyps
  • Fibroid
  • Start of endometriosis
  • Blockages in Fallopian tubes
  • See the shape of uterus

Benefits of Hysterosonography Treatment

  • There are no uses of needles or injections required in this hysterosonography.
  • Whereas X-rays employ ionizing radiation, ultrasound does not.
  • The procedure is relatively painless and doesn’t require any surgical cut.
  • Stereophotography makes it possible to make precise diagnoses by producing clear images of the uterus.
  • Serious problems are rare, and most patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately after the surgery.

Risks Associated with Hysterosonography Treatment

  • There may be mild bleeding or spotting following the surgery.
  • Pain medication can control cramping or discomfort that some women may experience during or after the surgery.
  • A rare but probable problem that happens fewer than 1% of the time. Your doctor will take precautions against this danger.
  • If the treatment is not done correctly or if you have active pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). There is a slight chance of infection (less than 1%) even though it is uncommon.

Procedure of Hysterosonography Surgery

Before Procedure

  • Your doctor may ask for a pregnancy test. If you are pregnant then it is not possible.
  • To make sure there are no indications of infection, your doctor could perform a pelvic exam prior to the treatment.
  • Your doctor might recommend medicine to reduce your irregular bleeding. If you are bleeding, it will be more difficult for your healthcare expert to see the lining of your uterus clearly.

During the Procedure

  • About half an hour should pass during your hysterosonography. You experience mild cramps or discomfort. But generally speaking, the procedure should be brief and painless. And the doctor will ask the patient to void in order to be sure that the bladder is empty. And this will help doctors to collect a urine sample for a pregnancy test. After that, the process occurs in three stages. Your supplier will:

Initial Trans-Vaginal Ultrasound

  • Before the process begins, you will be asked to lie on your back on a table. The doctor will insert a thin, lubricated rod into the female sexual organ. Once inside your womb, the rod will take images of its interior, which will be shown on a screen. Your healthcare provider will carefully move the wand to record your uterus from multiple angles once enough views have been obtained. Depending on the procedure’s indication and whether you’ve had a recent ultrasound, pictures of your abdomen might also be taken.

Insertion of Fluid into the Uterus

  • A healthcare provider will use a device called a speculum to hold the vagina open so that they can easily access the uterine lower part. After that the doctor will use a cotton material to clean the cervix. A thin tube called a catheter will next be placed into the  birth canal so that it reaches the uterus. Then the doctor will insert a safe saline solution into the uterus via a tube. Prior to adding the saline, taking pain medication can help reduce any mild cramping that might happen.

Repeating the Ultrasound Exam

  • Following the insertion of the fluid, a repeat trans-vaginal ultrasound is conducted to view the womb and uterine lining with the fluid inside. This allows for a more thorough check-up of the uterine cavity. It also helps in the identification of any anomalies or problems.

After Procedure

Once the test is over, patients should be able to return home and continue their normal activities. The following symptoms might be apparent to you.

  • After your procedure you might have a watery discharge for a few hours.
  • You might experience mild cramping or pain. You can feel better with NSAIDs.
  • The following few days may bring on spotting or red or brown discharge from your vagina. This is possible if the procedure causes tissue irritation, but it’s not a cause for concern.
