It is also called intracranial hemorrhage. This is a life-threatening problem in which after bursting, that blood gets collected in your brain and skull. This prevents the transfer of oxygen and other nutrients to the brain cells and tissues.

A stroke causes bleeding in the brain due to bursting of the blood vessels. This bleeding is called hemorrhage. It is quite common with those individuals who have unmanageable blood pressure. The brain dies due to insufficient oxygen, so such a condition needs immediate treatment. It is because once the brain gets dead then any treatment will not work effectively.

Causes of Brain Bleeding

When blood vessels of the brain burst it causes bleeding inside the brain. The reasons of this condition are given below:-

  • Brain tumor
  • Extremely high blood pressure
  • Blood clot
  • Leakage from the abnormal connection between veins and arteries
  • Deposition of fat in your arteries
  • Use of blood thinners
  • Injury due to accident, sport-related and a fall
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Abnormalities in the blood vessels

Treatment of Brain Hemorrhage

Brain hemorrhage can be treated by following the certain protocol and these are as follows:-

1. Diagnosis

It is the first step for treating brain bleeding. Your healthcare provider will review your medical history and signs. Headache is one of the most common symptoms. Then the doctor will run the tests which are mentioned below:-

  • MRI
  • CT scan
  • Chest X-ray
  • Complete blood count
  • Angiography
  • Physical examination
  • Electroencephalogram
  • Urine analysis
  • Lumbar puncture
  • Magnetic resonance angiogram

2. Procedure

After running all necessary tests, your surgeon will advise you which kind of treatment will be best for your disease. Its treatment depends on the location and severity of bleeding in the brain. The main purpose of the treatment is to stop bleeding and manage its pain and cause. This can be done in the following ways:-

i ) Surgery

Bleeding in the brain can be stopped by performing an operation. This may also help to determine and underlying its cause. It includes various types of surgeries:-

a) Craniotomy

It is a major operation in which the brain is viewed by removing the bone from the skull. The section of the bone is removed by using a tool called bone flap. After the procedure this tool is removed. Then imaging scans are done to locate the exact location for the treatment. It is done to see abnormalities in the brain, like clots, leakage from the blood vessels.

b) Decompression

In this process, it helps to reduce swelling and inflammation without squeezing. It is done by removing the part of the skull and this minimizes the pressure in the brain.

c) Craniectomy

This is a type of an operation which is performed to relieve the pressure on the brain. It is done by removing a section of the skull to stop bleeding.

ii ) Medications

Your doctor will prescribe you medicines depending on your test result. These includes:-

  • Anti-seizure medicines
  • Pain-reliever
  • Antidepressants
  • Steroids
  • Blood pressure management medicines
  • Swelling reducing drugs

iii ) Catheter

A long, flexible and thin tube is inserted to the affected area to drain out the fluid that surrounds the brain.

Recovery

Once brain hemorrhage is treated then rehabilitation is important to recover from its surgery. This includes:-

  • Psychotherapy
  • Occupational therapy
